Make plans to attend CNA's Annual Picnic and Chili Cook-Off on October 21. See the Calendar for more details.
The Camelot Neighborhood Association will sponsor the Annual Picnic and Arlene’s Chili Cook-Off, on Saturday, October 21, 2023. The event will be centered around our monument to the victims of COVID. The address for your GPS is 3413 King Arthur Drive. We will begin at 3:00 p.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. All Camelot families are welcome to join in the party. Face painting, plenty of games with prizes for the kids, plus new games for all, will be part of the entertainment. Please check in at the registration table when you arrive.
Arlene’s Chili Cook-Off, named after our longtime Cook-Off planner, Arlene Novak, is always a big attraction. We have great prizes for three categories: Best All-Round Chili, Hottest Chili, and Best Chili on a Hot Dog. Chili entries must be at the judging table no later than 3:15. Please contact Rick Williams at rickwilli@gmail.com or 214-535-2648 by October 20, or just show up with your crock pot if you want to enter the Chili Cook-Off. Dinner service begins after the judging is concluded with hot dogs and all the fixings, chips, soft drinks, and samples of all the chili entries you care to try. If you have a secret recipe for chili, now is the time to whip it up and share with your neighbors!
A new feature this year is the Camelot Cookie Contest. We want people to bring desserts but “finger food” type items that won’t get your hands sticky. The easiest way to do that is to ask for cookies, and we thought a contest would be fun. Please contact Jo-Sandra Greenberg at (972) 814-0777 or josandra1@gmail.com to enter. Winners will get a trophy and their recipe published in the newsletter. (See details below.)
Attendees will also receive tickets for some great raffle prizes from local businesses! We had several hundred dollars of raffle prizes at the picnic in 2022. The business meeting begins at 4:00 p.m. During this time, we will recognize our special guests and announce the Camelot Yard of the Year and the winner of the annual Excalibur Award. Ballots will be distributed to any current members to vote for the 2023 slate of officers.
Volunteer opportunities: If you want to help with the food service line, please contact Diana Thomas at dianamthomas777@gmail.com or call 562-505-8728. Starting at 2:00 p.m., we also need able-bodied helpers for set-up (tables, equipment, canopy tents, etc.) and for tear down beginning at 6:00 p.m. If you can help with the setup/tear down part, please contact Joe Thomas at joethomasjr@gmail.com or 214-218-2227.
Picnic sponsors and door prize donations help CNA produce the best neighborhood picnic in the city. All sponsors will be acknowledged in Camelot’s award-winning newsletter, The Knightly News, at the prize table, and on the Camelot Neighborhood Association’s social media pages. Sponsors who donate more than $25 will get a free ad on www.camelotna.com .This is a great way to publicize a business to your neighbors. If you would like to learn more about sponsorship or raffle prize opportunities, please contact Diana Thomas at 562-505-8728.
Bring your wallet or checkbook because all who join CNA for 2024 at the picnic will pay only $20, a $5 savings.
Camelot in October is a great time of year. Don’t miss out on our biggest event of the year. Bring your folding chairs and come enjoy a great afternoon of family fun.
New Cookie Contest added to Annual Picnic
In honor of longtime Camelot volunteer Etta Mauldin, CNA is adding a contest this year to appeal to everyone’s sweet tooth. Etta shared her delicious snickerdoodle cookie recipe for years so we decided to memorialize her life by starting “Miss Etta’s Cookie Challenge.” Picnic attendees are encouraged to bring their home-baked cookies for a chance to win. Cookie entrees will be our picnic desserts this year so bring plenty.
